Rio and I desperately needed a little get away to be alone, celebrate our engagement and just CHILL. It was so awesome to go on a trip where we had no real plans we just did whatever we wanted for three days and it was ZEN AF.
I went to college in Tucson and hadn’t been back since the day I packed up my VW Bug and drove it to back home to LA, and boy has it changed.
Where we ate
In N Out– Obvi the first stop when you go to the west coast. Its a must have. We sat in our rental car and didn’t speak while we shoved our faces with animal style fries.
HUB Restaurant and Ice Creamery- This adorable spot on Congress was the perfect place for our first night out in Tucson. The bruschetta was the best thing I ate and the ice cream we had after dinner was so worth the stomach ache.
Brooklyn Pizza- Brooklyn was as amazing and garlicy as I remembered, and the garlic knots, OMG.
La Cocina- Such a beautiful place, we truly felt like we were on vacation dining here. It’s this super cute outdoor spot with all these beautiful trees providing shade. There are also cute little shops surrounding the restaurant. We also ran into a girl that Rio used to work with at a bar in Chicago! How random.
Tallboys AF- Honestly the best meal I had. I got the corn cakes with yogurt and oats on it. It was honestly so delicious. Also the bloody was delish.
Pinnacle Peak- I remember going here when I was a kid, you would always trick your out of town guest to wear a tie and they would come over with a bell and cut your tie off. Its a western theme steakhouse with a vintage cowboy vibe and theres a cute little “town” with other shops surrounding it. Super weird place, mediocre steaks but its more about the vibe I think.
Where we drank
We honestly didn’t do a ton of drinking but my favorite bars in Tucson are
Ches Lounge- Hip AF, dive. With a nice outdoor area because Tucson is always warm and gorg
Sky Bar- This bar is just really cool. Its completely solar powered, and every night they have astronomers come and set up telescopes and you can look at the stars and the moon. Rio and I love the moon, so we were super stoked about that.
Mr. Heads- This bar was my jam in college, it was the first bar I was ever a regular at. I used to go there in my PJs and slippers to do homework and drink beer. It was so strange to go back and not see any familiar faces. Its still a fun bar, also with a nice outdoor seating area and on the weekends they have DJs outside!
What we did
De Grazia Museum, Gallery in the Sun- Day 2 we drove up to the foothills and went to this museum, It was like 80 degrees and It was so beautiful up there. I would recommend anyone going to Tucson to stop by. It was like 5 dollars to get in and we spent like an hour just taking pictures of all the cacti and art outdoors.
All souls precession- The entire reason we went to Tucson was to go to this parade. I remember it starting on 4th ave and going through downtown and Congress Ave. Apparently this year was the first year they changed the route, it was still really fun! We got all dressed up, and made the long long walk with everyone else celebrating the lives of their lost loved ones. I love when people gather for positive purposes, it was truly beautiful to witness and Rio loved taking photos.
The Westin La Paloma Resort- I used to stay here when I was a kid and I have the best memories here. We only stayed here for one night but it was PERFECT. They hooked it up with the most beautiful room with a quick walk to the SEVEN pools. SEVEN POOLS YOU GUYS. We checked in around 11AM, went straight to the pool and hung out there until 6PM. They have a slide, multiple hot tubs, 2 huge pools ones for everyone and ones adults only, theres also a swim up bar where I drank many Pina coladas and prickly pear margs. This was the perfect way to end our trip. Its such a great get away for a girls trip, a little romantic get away or even a trip with the kiddos. The slide will keep them amused for hours, I mean it did for us.
