Okay so I basically have the coolest job ever. I get to hang out in a little cute space, watch reality T.V. all day and hang out with really the coolest women ever. I’m hashtag blessed. I have met some really really really cool ladies in my few years doing nails and I want to share these women with the world. So starting now I’m going to be doing a woman crush interview with the awesome ladies in my life so you can be obsessed with them just like me.
So my first interview is with one of my favorite clients, the super fashionable and hilarious, Lauren of The Fashion Dailies.
• Give a small intro about yourself
I’m Lauren! I’m 26, born & raised as a Kanas kid turned city kid and the biyotch behind the Chicago Instagram & blog, The Fashion Dailies. My page is a roundup of my outfits and meant to inspire others to dress the way they want. Style is a peace of mind and I want to encourage my followers to step out of bounds and put an end to the statement “I can’t pull that off.”
• When did you start your blog, and why did you start it?
I started my blog in October of 2015. I had just moved to Chicago from NYC where I worked in fashion PR. I was having a hard time finding a job in that industry here, so I accepted a position in law – totally random. I knew I needed an outlet to express my creativity so I took to Instagram to post pictures of what I was wearing. Shortly after that, I built my website and posted the details of my OOTD.
• How would you describe your personal style
Sexy street style with a shit ton of denim. No joke I have at least 45 pairs of jeans. I wear a lot of thrifted and vintage pieces so my outfits aren’t always click-to-buy, but you can duplicate them easily. Aside from chokers and hoops you’ll rarely see me in jewelry. Most importantly, I’m a huge supporter of the #freethenipple movement (à la RiRi) so if there’s ever an option to go braless, I’m taking it.
• Where do you shop in Chicago?
I’m all about affordable fashion, so I love to hit up Salvation Army and Goodwill for unique, vintage pieces. Set aside at least an hour when going thrifting – this is not the place for people who want to get in and out! I’ll spend 2-3 hours going through every single rack and sometimes only come out with 1 or 2 gems. I love Nordstrom Rack on State St. for shoes (make a bee-line for the clearance!) If I’m feeling flush ($$$) I’ll go to Luxury Garage Sale and peruse the accessories.
• What do you splurge on?
Shoes, 100%. A girl can never have too many shoes!
• Who is your fashion inspo
Rihanna will always be my #1 style crush. She wears what she wants, when she wants, how she wants. Her unapologetic-ness inspires me every single day. I’m a big @Peaceloveshea fan as well. She wears a lot of high-end pieces, but you can always duplicate her style and pairings with cheaper finds! Fran Drescher in The Nanny will always be a monumental influence to me, she is SUCH a hottie!
• What is your next fashion must have?
The fashion world is having moment with berets and I am here for it. I can’t wait to stock up on different colors and fabrics. On the hunt for a red leather beret, so HMU if you know where I can find one.
• What’s your biggest tip to someone starting a blog?
Be consistent in your posting and never go a day without being present on your channels. I can’t stress this enough! Becoming irrelevant is the kiss of death in the Insta world. With the new algorithm Instagram has adopted, the more you post the more you’re present on people’s feeds. I would also steer clear of giveaways and try to gain your followers organically. This way you can assure your followers are REAL and an active, engaging audience.
• Where do you get inspo for your shoots and what’s your favorite app for editing your photos?
Every night when I get in bed, I scroll Tumblr for like an hour. I get sooo much inspiration from other bloggers and photographers. I always try to put together a “mood board” album on my phone for when I’m feeling uninspired. If we’re being honest, I use about 5 different apps to edit each of my pictures (omg spoiler!) so picking one isn’t easy. It’s probably a tie between Photoshop and VSCO.
• Top 5 beauty products we all must have ASAP
Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb
Farsali Rose Gold Elixir
Aura Cacia Cinnamon Leaf Oil – (I add a drop of this directly to my lips before any lip products for an instant plump)
Kate Somerville EradiKate Acne Drying Lotion
DryBar Lemon Drop Brush
• Do you remember how we first met? And do you remember your first nail set?
I was so creepy and I slid into your DMs on Instagram. Or maybe I sent you an email. Anyways, it was definitely me who made the first move, I had no chill. I remember making the subject of the email “Omg you have to do my nails!!!” Like be cool Lauren damn. I’m pretty sure my first manicure was a color-changing polish with turquoise stones! Very bohemian and not really my style at all. Also my nails were short little nubs.
• Who are your current girl crushes on insta?
I have so many girl crushes going on at all times I honestly think it makes my boyfriend jealous/nervous. There are so many gorgeous, smart and inspiring girls on Instagram it’s hard not to become mildly obsessed. Right now a few of my favorite ladies are @lecitykitty, @kristennoelcrawley, @ihateblonde and @dennayafamous. AH I mean I have sooo many more. Girls rock. Pu$$y power.
Okay so are y’all as obsessed with Lauren as I am?
